Some people think that the government should decide the subject for students to study in university. Others believe that students should be allowed to apply for the subject they prefer. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

3. 高分范文示例
The issue of who should make the decision on course selection, whether the authorities or the undergraduates themselves, has sparked a heated debate. This essay will explore both perspectives and present my balanced opinion on this matter.
On the one hand, the government’s role in subject selection is crucial. Firstly, it promotes equal access to tertiary education. If governments decide on the subject for students to study in university, they can ensure that all fields of study, including arts and music, are occupied, and not just those that may currently be in demand like IT or engineering courses. This will lead to a more diverse and balanced workforce. Secondly, it keeps the national education system up to date. By deciding the subjects for students, governments can identify which courses are short of students and are not aligned with economic demands and the country’s priorities, making necessary adjustments accordingly.
On the other hand, allowing students to choose subjects according to their liking also exhibits numerous benefits. For one thing, it makes them more motivated. It is undeniable that interest leads to greater motivation to succeed, and the same applies to one’s studies. If students are interested in their subjects, they perform well and are less likely to give up easily on learning. Besides individual interest and passion, the process of selecting courses individually also develops one’s critical thinking and decision-making skills. Studies show that students who are involved in the course selection manifest careful considerations including factors such as time, money, and the practicality of the course, which prepare them for more opportunities requiring critical assessments and decision-making.
In conclusion, I concur that both sides have merits. Therefore, finding a balance between government- and student-selected courses in universities will surely create a more dynamic job market and encourage individuality.

1. 题目及其大意
Some people think the best way to solve traffic congestion in cities is to provide free public transport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

3. 高分范文示例
As the issue of road congestion worsens day by day, more and more individuals are suggesting unlimited, no-charge public transportation as the most ideal solution. I partially agree with this notion based on the following reasons.
On the one hand, I will never deny that once public transport is offered for free 24 hours a day, seven days a week, citizens will highly be encouraged to leave their cars at home. Instead, they may opt for a more suitable mode of transport. With the decrease in the number of private cars on the road, traffic jams will be placed at a minimum. To illustrate further, an average bus carries between 30 and 100 passengers. This means that approximately 15 to 50 private vehicles will not be driven on a daily basis, and that is for one bus alone.
On the other hand, I also find it true that other people still place higher regard on convenience than cost, manifesting that free transport is not always effective in reducing traffic. Businessmen, in particular, are less likely to take a subway to get to and from the office just to save money. Similarly, a mother of three primary school students may prioritize a convenient and air-conditioned ride through their own car over a crowded metro. Hence, due to people’s preferences, let alone their high income, free transportation would not address traffic congestion that much.
In conclusion, although saving money is attractive for some commuters, others value comfort more than price. Thus, I partly concur with the stance that no-cost public transport ride tackles congestion on roads.

1、题目及其大意
In some countries, some criminal trials are shown on the TV and the general public can watch them. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
2、思路提纲
3、高分范文示例
Nowadays, it is common to see many people watching judicial hearings broadcast on television. This phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages, but I believe that the former prevail over the latter.
On the one hand, the first benefit televised trials offer is that they help educate the public. A transparent judicial system makes people more knowledgeable about the law. For instance, when court proceedings about corporate fraud or murder are broadcast, viewers gain insight into how the legal system operates, how criminals are punished, and how justice is served.
Secondly, it acts as a powerful deterrent. Knowing that criminal actions will be publicly aired on television, and that both the accused and their families may be recognized by the public, potential offenders may hesitate before committing crimes. The fear of public embarrassment and social harassment can prevent people from engaging in illegal activities.
On the other hand, a significant disadvantage of broadcasting criminal trials is the risk of an unfair trial. Public exposure can lead to intense social judgment, which may influence the participants in the trial. Judges, prosecutors, and witnesses might feel pressured by the attention, potentially resulting in biased decisions and undermining the fairness of the judicial process. For example, when a Korean celebrity is involved in a crime and the media covers the case, intense public scrutiny is expected. This may stress out the jurors and judges, compromising the fairness of the trial due to media influence.
In conclusion, although there is a potential risk of injustice due to public attention, I still believe that the benefits of broadcasting court trials—such as educating the public and deterring crime—are more significant than the drawbacks.
